In a powerful show of community-led peace efforts, three individuals from West Pokot voluntarily surrendered illegal firearms on Tuesday in a coordinated initiative involving the County Government, national administration, and security agencies.
The handovers, made in Nyangaita Village and Chepkogogh in Pokot Central Sub-County, signal growing trust in ongoing peacebuilding initiatives across the region.

The firearms were handed over in the presence of family members, local chiefs, peace elders, and senior government officials, including West Pokot County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif, county police officers, and the County Director of Peace, Rev. Jackson Alukusia.
Rev. Alukusia praised the bold steps taken by the individuals, urging more residents to follow suit and embrace peaceful coexistence.
The National Police Service also commended the gesture, encouraging peace elders and community leaders to deepen engagement with residents to support further disarmament.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in the joint effort to strengthen security and rebuild trust in historically vulnerable areas of the county.
